Ain't-It-Cool-News Reviewed My Comics - Sweet!

Matt Adler from AICN was nice enough to give my comics a read. His review was thoughtful and fair- which is great for an amateur writer like me.

Hell, "fair" is great if anybody can get it on this planet. Other than said fairness, the review also happened to be positive.

Thanks Mr. Adler.

*Also, I had changed this "cantankerous" line before reading the article. Promise.

Healthcare

Should I take the time to bitch about healthcare in America, or just let everyone know that my wife and I are so frustrated with some health issues were seriously considering a move to Europe?

Ugh.

In better news, I just finished the second draft of King of Pain number three! And I should begin lettering issue two in a week or so.

Rocketh.

Far Ago

*Farrago: A collection containing a confused variety of
miscellaneous things; a motley assortment.*

During the last election cycle my brother and I collaborated on political cartoons. He wrote some great jokes. I was drawing but soon found myself overwhelmed by music and writing obligations.

We ended up finishing only two strips.

You can see why Sam and Jiro are the artists for King of Pain.

Superman is a Badass

I've always dug Supes. The nostalgia factor with Christopher Reeve is in full effect. Sometimes I get weepy when I watch the original Richard Donner flick.

You know, I think that 90% of the time I'm writing about superheroes that movie is buzzing around in the back of my head.

I'm also a loyal fan of "Superman Returns." And I will fight you if you disagree— bring it.

Bulgakov and Belly

Libby Landvatter is my wife, editor, and musical collaborator. She (being a Russian speaker and student of literature) wrote a song based on the book "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhael Bulgakov. The song is called "Apartment Fifty" and our band Belly of the Whale has recorded it and been playing it live for about a year. (Coincidentally the book also inspired Mick Jagger to write his lyrics for "Sympathy for the Devil."— though Libby and I were unaware at the time we worked on our take.)

Jan Vanhellemont runs an exquisitely detailed fan site for Bulgakov and specifically Master and Margarita. He has put up a bio for our music and featured Apartment Fifty. He sure did his homework on the band too. Check it out:

And much thanks to Mr. Vanhellemont!
